Ultra Toot

The silly name for the new 3D animated Toot model being developed now.

History[edit]

The articulated Tootsville IV toots that could wear clothes and such (compared to the earlier, Basic 8-only characters) were a file named Master Toot (actually master-toot.fla) so, “Ultra” is supposed to be better than “Master.”

What will Ultra Toots look like?[edit]

While the design of the basic Toot body model is quite similar to the Tootsville IV art, the new model is a fully-articulated 3D graphic. This is a different 3D model than the one that an unknown artist used for the promotional videos for Res Interactive's Tootsville.

One intentional change is that the arms, legs, and trunk of the new Toots will be a little longer than before. This will allow the new Toots to have knees, elbows, and manipulate things with their trunk.

(User:BRFennPocock notes: Many people seemed to confuse the Toots for “pigs” due to their very short trunks.)

Why a new Toot model?[edit]

Tootsville IV was already a 3D world — but the style of artwork made it difficult to judge distances and shapes, as well as making “proper” 3D lighting and shadows impossible.

The Ultra Toot is a fully 3D model, enabling it to move smoothly, cast shadows, and interact with the environment more fluidly than the Master Toot.

In addition, the articulated trunk and addition of knees and elbows will open new possibilities both for animation and interactions in the game world.

Why now?[edit]

If you've been lucky enough to “catch” us when there was a working test server, you may have seen the old Toot graphics in the 3D world — but these have been not animated and without costumes and patterns.

Most of you haven't. Introducing the new model now, means that “everyone” joining us with Tootsville V will have a blank inventory — we'll be able to introduce new costumes and other items for Ultra Toot from the (fifth) beginning.

If we delayed, we'd have to do something to convert every inventory item over to the new system.

Development[edit]

An early, low-detail model is being prepared now and was publicly “sneak previewed” on Facebook

This model will still need additional details added, as well as creation of new animations for its behaviors.

New patterns, costumes, and more will also be introduced as soon as possible.

Expected Results[edit]

Soon, you'll see Ultra Toot avatars in the game world. At first, you won't be able to pick your colors, and the patterns won't be available. You also won't see any animations in the game, at first. When you move around, your character will just “glide” from place to place.

Over time, we'll add color options, patterns, and costumes, and add animations to the character.
